Maternity Session and Name Reveal. But Cool.

The days of standing on mountaintops in a flowy dress, pretending pregnancy is always this perfectly curated, dreamy experience? Yeah… I think we’re over it. I’ve been thinking a lot about this lately, especially when I look back at my own photos from when my kids were little. The fake eyelashes. The boho dresses. The perfectly posed moments. They were beautiful, but they weren’t really a reflection of what that season of our life actually looked like.

And THIS? This is what I want more of.

This little girl had literally just woken up from her nap, still had her post-nap snack smeared all over her face, and we just rolled with it. We went into the backyard. We played with stickers. We painted. We got messy. We let her be a kid.

And then we documented it.

No forcing her into some perfectly curated version of childhood. No trying to make this moment look like something it wasn’t. Just this family, exactly as they are, getting ready to welcome another little human into their lives.

And it is EVERYTHING.

I think photography is moving away from that overly curated, picture-perfect version of family life and back toward something that actually feels like us. The messy hands. The snack-covered faces. The chaos. The connection. The shit that we will actually remember.

Give me more of THIS.

Because someday, these are the photos they’re going to look back on and say, “Yep. That was us.”

And can we all take a moment to GUSH over their chosen baby name? You will have to scroll to the end to see what is it, but I AM SO OBSESSED.
